blip.tv Celebrates Online Media Content at Mocca Lounge

I think it is safe to say that most people’s lives have never been the same since the introduction of online media and video companies. Choosing between your favorite Thursday night sitcom or a cocktail hour with your friends is no longer an issue with the availability of movies and television shows on the internet. And now, blip.tv is a website that makes more than 48,000 independent web shows available to more than 22,000,000 viewers.

Last Wednesday evening, blip.tv co-founders Dina Kaplan and Mike Hudack (see them in the center of the above photo!) hosted a party at the trendy Mocca Lounge in NYC’s Tribeca neighborhood to celebrate the company’s cyber success. The event attracted blip.tv friends and industry insiders alike, including top executives, journalists and industry insiders from companies like MTV, NBC and IAC. (See me with blip.tv CEO Mike Hudack!)

These web gurus know how to celebrate, with complimentary Bulldog Gin cocktails and bottles of Peroni. Delicious Mediterranean-inspired hor d’oeuvres made their way around a room that buzzed with gossip about the latest and the greatest in the multi-media world.

The guest list included Richard Blakely from Gawker, Bob Buck, VP at Digg, Joe Ciarallo from Media Bistro, Andrea Chalupo from the Huffington Post/AOL, and Ask Melissa’s Jennifer Wright. Photographer Steven Ekerovich snapped these attendees as they grooved to tunes by DJ AK in the dimly lit hotspot.

blip.tv recognizes that there are tons of innovative and independent out there. The website is home to more than 2.4 million episodes of everything from sitcoms to dramas, news programs to how-to programs. blip.tv also hosts and syndicates shows to a number of notable online resources, including YouTube, iTunes, Facebook, Verizon and more.

After a fun-filled night spent in honor of the World Wide Web, party-goers took home goody bags stuffed with Popchips, Honest Tea, a Moosewood Restaurant frozen dinner entrée voucher, and a Mocca Lounge gift certificate.

blip.tv offers a unique way to find new and interesting shows while also bringing independent show creators onto the media radar.

Street Walking: 36th Annual Village Halloween Parade

Last night Fashionwithfifi was in attendance at the 36th annual Village Halloween Parade in New York City. The theme for this year’s event was Terra Incognita – meaning unknown land. The parade, which ran from 7 pm until 10 pm, began at Spring Street and traveled north on 6 Avenue to 21st street.

Thinkerbell

Zartan and Storm Shadow

Not even rain could stop more than 2 million spectators from crowding 6th Avenue. Thousands of participants came decked out in creative spooky and humorous costumes. Michael Jackson, Capt. Jack Sparrow, Fred Flintstone, Duff Man, Jesus and Destro were some of this year’s popular costumes.

Regal Princess

The free mile-long procession featured musical performers, break dancers, jugglers and giants on stilts. Dancers performed to Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” and several Jackson impersonators popped a few moon walks and signature high kicks.

Blue Devil

The Joker's and his girl

This year’s Halloween spectacle was quite an experience. Where else in Manhattan can you find a pimp in a wheel chair, the Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Kim Zolciak in search of Big Poppa, Wanda, Key Lo-lo and Sheneneh Jenkins all in the same place?

It’s no wonder this event was listed in the book 100 Things To Do Before You Die. You can watch more on the event in the video below.

Taste of Times Square 2009

Yesterday, I had the wonderful opportunity of participating in the Taste of Times Square event on New York's famed Restaurant Row. For years I heard of this event but never had the opportunity of going, and decided to make the effort of attending this year. Unlike most of New York's traditional summer events and festivals, Taste of Times Square started in the mid-afternoon at 5pm: just in time for the tired working folks to participate. Music was heard from several blocks away: the atmosphere was alive with entertainment from tap dancers, violinists, mariachi performers, and drummers. The scene reminded me of the New Orleans' French Quarter during Mardi Gras. people from all around the world came to chow down on some of New York's finest foods.

Over 53 restaurants participated - offering a wide variety of food to choose from. Crowds gathered around booths to get a bite of the big apple's finest restaurants. Although the event was free; however, sampling the tasty dishes weren't. Tickets were sold at $1 each and the price of a sample portion ranged from $1-6 (still a great deal considering the hefty portion you received).

I came prepared - on an empty stomach. As a result, I was able to treat myself to several international dishes. At Gallagher's Steakhouse, I tried some of their signature steak sandwiches which came with BBQ chips on the side. Stuffed with steak and sauteed onions, I would highly recommend this at Gallagher's Steakhouse if you're into some good Ole' American dishes.

From there, I made a stop at Shula's Steak House - founded by the Miami Dolphin's former head coach Don Shula and sampled their famous steaks. The yummy tender loin was served with their signature sauces. Also, I chomped on a Mediterranean lamb wrap from Toloache (which I wasn't too fond of), mouth watering Paella from Meson Sevilla, tried a great seafood salad at Da Rosina Ristorante Italiano, southern style soul food from B.Smith's and my voted favorite - Pulled Pork Sandwich from Joe Allen.

Later on, we met up with B-RAE who joined in on the fun. Drum lessons were provided by the Drum cafe. As an incentive to burn calories, free dance lessons were provided by the Dance Manhattan Studio to the event goers. This was a sensational one day event - family, friend, and couple friendly. Overall, I spent $30 between Will and I which was well worth it. Next year I'll bring a doggy bag. The only complaint I had was not having enough time to visit all the restaurants and munch on an Alligator in a blanket from Bourbon Street.

You Still Have Time to Taste The Best of Times Square. Print out this coupon and present it at participating restaurants by June 30 and enjoy 15% off.
