Beauty Solutions: How to Buy Teeth Whiteners

GoSmile Go Discover Teeth Whitening Discovery Kit Kit (an $80 Value!)

Want a healthy, bright smile? Thanks to a bounty of at-home whiteners, you can get whiter teeth in the comfort of your bathroom. For significant stains and yellowing, a dentist consult is best, but consider an OTC option when your pearly whites need a little lightening. Herewith, the nitty-gritty on going the great white way:

TYPE: At home tooth whiteners generally fall into three categories: bleaching with a tray system; applying strips loaded with whitening ingredients directly to teeth; or coating stained teeth directly with a "pen" that dispenses active ingredients through a brush or foam tip applicator. Some bleaching systems incorporate a battery-operated light that gives faster results.

EFFICIENCY: The best brightening and stain-erasing systems are ones with a high concentration of peroxide. You'll get the whitest smile from a tray system, since it protects saliva from seeping onto your teeth and keeps the bleach from losing potency. Strips are a close second, because the dose of peroxide is very high, but be wary of the strips slipping and sliding off teeth. Finally, paint on brushes has the least amount of peroxide, but gives lightening quick whitening, good for rubbing out red wine or coffee stains.

CONVENIENCE: Deciding which whitening system works for you depends on your lifestyle. Always on-the-go? Pick a pen. Have an hour? Strips are a good choice, because they're used for half-hour intervals twice a day, over a week, and can be worn easily while watching TV or taking a shower. A tray system requires the most time, such as a few hours a day, sometimes overnight, during a two week period.

MAINTENANCE: Once you get a whiter, brighter smile, you'll want to keep it that way. Look for daily mouthwashes, toothpastes, flosses and touch-up whiteners with mild bleaching agents and abrasives that help rinse away stains from food, coffee, tea, wine or cola and prevent yellowing.

Beauty Solutions: How to Buy Facial Cleanser

Daily Facial Cleanser

You know the drill: Wash your face when you wake, and then again, before you turn in. So it's no surprise a face cleanser is crucial for healthy, fresh skin. Its job is simple, but direct: Take off a night's worth of oil, and a day's worth of makeup and grime. But how do you decide between a bar soap, scrub, gel or cream? Before you lather up, get the dirt on how to find the best face cleanser for you:

Skin Type: To pick the proper
cleanser, you need to determine your skin type, whether it's oily, dry, normal or sensitive. Try this test: Rinse your face with water. If it feels tight and dry afterwards, it's dry; if you still notice a shine, it's oily; if it feels no different, then your skin is probably normal. If your face tends to get red and irritated from moisturizer, makeup or sunscreen, you're sensitive.

Formula: Cleansers come in a variety of different formulas like a moisturizing milk, gel, foaming wash, bar, scrub, mousse and cream. It's usually a personal preference, though most formulas are specific to skin type, i.e. a cream base is more moisturizing, while a gel helps wash away oil.

Ingredients: It depends on skin type, but a surfactant or cleansing agent will top the ingredient list, along with moisturizers, botanicals, extracts, anti-agers or anti-bacterials. If you're skin is sensitive, you'll want to make sure the formula is fragrance free, since fragrance is a known irritant.

Results: Keeping skin type in mind, seek out a face cleanser that has benefits. For instance, if you have dry skin, you'll want a moisturizing wash that won't strip skin of its natural oils.

Hair Solutions: Remedies for Dry Hair

Are you suffering from dry, damaged hair? If so, you may want to reconsider braiding, coloring, excessive blow-drying, swimming and overshampooing your dry hair.

Those suffering from dry, damaged hair will be amazed at the benefits of good basic hair care on a regular basis.

There are specialized shampoos, conditioners and treatment products, which can ideally care for your dry, damaged or chemically treated hair. Basic hair care includes Korres Sunflower Extract and Vitamin F Shampoo to cleanse and Korres Silk Milk Conditioner for colored and chemically treated hair to condition. No question about it, daily environmental stress and exposure can harm and effect even the healthiest strands. Daily use of Korres Yogurt Cooling Gel can assist in protecting your hair from UV damage. Once a week, treat your hair to nourishing vitamins and conditioners with Korres Shea Butter & Vitamins Nourishing & Hydrating Hair Mask.

Another option would be to use PureStrength Three-C System for Extremely Dry, Damaged Hair. Dry, damaged hair is often a result of over-processing with harsh chemical treatments that leave hair looking dull, lifeless and very dry. This trio of hair care products instantly targets damaged cuticles leaving hair visibly stronger, hydrated and more manageable. If you find that your ends are a bit fuzzy, use Korres Rice Proteins Hair Tip Serum to smooth them down without worry of a heavy silicone residue.

Here are some at home remedies you can use to help moisturize and repair your dry, damaged hair:

Bananas: Using two mashed bananas and half beaten curd, apply this paste to your hair and scalp, and leave in for 15 minutes. You’ll feel the difference immediately.

Olive Oil: Putting olive oil onto the hair in sections and covering your hair with a cap will help add moisture to the hair.

Mayonnaise: They say that mayonnaise makes an excellent conditioner for your hair.

Liquid Fabric Softener: By using only a small drop of liquid fabric softener, you can detangle your hair and soften it.
