Spring 2010 Paris Couture Collections & Trends

Here are the trends we spotted at the Spring 2010 Fashion Show in Paris:

Alexis Mabille: This is a good example of when geometry meets fashion. Mabille’s Spring 2010 collection definitely stood out in Paris with the cartoon-like couture. Two-toned hair color and fashion: Black contrasted by vibrant Fuschia, Blue, and Yellow.

Armani PrivĂ©: "It's about the moon," explained Giorgio Armani before his show. "I always need a hook to get into a collection, and that was it—thinking about something romantic and dreamy, far away from our everyday life. Something less harsh." You can see the lunar references in the Classic, Soft, luminescent fabrics and curviform cutting fabrics.

Chanel: Classic couture, refreshening Pastel colors with a hint of silver complimented by Lady Gaga's "Heart-shaped" like hair.

Christian Dior: Romanticized gowns. Sleeveless fanned tops. Rich silk and colors topped with sequins.

Givenchy: Dark, strong, erotic and dramatic beauty. Riccardo Tisci took us back into time – the 70’s with cocktail dresses featuring spiral-cut sprays of organza, jumpsuits in black lace with boleros, and a section of long evening look.

Jean Paul Gaultier: Giant sombreros, fringed and silver-studded denim; bra-top feathered dresses; shifts embroidered with bright jewels or worn with metallic shoulder and leg-guards; and ball gowns woven, in the manner of peasant baskets, in ribbons of shadow-dyed silk and suede.. a Mexican fiesta in Paris indeed!

Perfume of the Week: Jean Paul Gaultier Le Classique

Jean Paul Gaultier Le Classique Edp Natural Spray - 20ml / 0.67oz

For more than 20 years, Jean Paul Gaultier has been championing personal style, dismantling common ideas of what should—and should not—be worn. Regarding fragrance as the "first garment we wear," Gaultier's multitude of surprising, audacious, and sensual scents are crafted to express each wearer's personality. He creates fragrances intended to reveal the body, enhance the power of seduction with elegance, and speak the messages whispered by the skin.

Sensual and sophisticated, Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Classique eau de Parfum is a new interpretation of his famous woman's fragrance. Warm and profound, its charm lies in its floral, voluptuous, and deliciously entrancing notes. Le Classique is a floral bouquet, a more intense olfactory concentration than that of the Eau de Toilette.

Top fragrance notes are anise orange blossom and tangerine. Middle notes are ginger orchid and ylang-ylang. Base notes are vanilla musk and amber. Senses are floral-oriental fruity sweet-Ambery. It is recommended for romantic evening wear.

You can purchase a 20 ml/ 0.67 oz eau de parfum bottle for $71.72 at UnbeatableSale, Inc.

Front Row at Jean Paul Gaultier

Fashion week is going on and everyone wants to know what's new in the glamourous world of couture and who's in attendance. There was no exception at the Jean Paul Gaultier show.

Stepping into the fashion ring, Mickey Rourke turned up at Jean Paul Gaultier’s couture show on Wednesday. Rourke said he has personal business in town and is planning to buy a new pooch following the passing of Loki, his treasured Chihuahua. “Loki died three months before the Academy Awards, which was so sad. I had his name embroidered on my shoes,” he said, gesturing to his black velvet slippers. “Gaultier had even made a tuxedo for her,” he added gravely, before slipping backstage to greet the designer.

Pop princess Kylie Minogue, meanwhile, was on a shopping spree for her next performances. “I’m going on tour in the States in October and I’m here to see clothes that we can incorporate,” she said.

And Sonia Rykiel turned up to be filmed with Gaultier for a documentary for German TV channel ARD. “They’re following me everywhere,” she said. Rykiel was unequivocal in her criticism of haute couture. “Haute couture doesn’t mean anything. There’s no baisse (low) couture or haute couture, there’s only fashion, that’s all,” she declared.
