Get the Look: Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu

To wrap up Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2010, Guido, Redken Creative Consultant ended with a bang of ponytails at the Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu shows in Paris. See below for the must-have products and inspiration!

LOUIS VUITTON
Guido created the perfect classic ponytail with curls at the ends and a piece of hair wrapped around the elastic. “We wanted to create a retro ponytail to complement the 1950s feel of the clothes.” -Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Products:
• Redken Style Connection velvet gelatine 07 cushioning blow dry gel
• Redken Glass 01 Smoothing Serum

Create the look:
1. Apply velvet gelatine 07 cushioning blow dry gel to damp hair with a round brush
2. Pin hair into rolls and let cool.
3. Pull hair into a smooth ponytail right (no part) below the occipital bone and secure with an elastic
4. Wrap a piece of hair around the elastic and secure underneath the ponytail with bobby pins to conceal the elastic.
5. Around the hairline, apply glass 01 smoothing serum and make sure all baby hairs are down for a smooth, sleek look.

MIU MIU
The look at Miu Miu was a sleek, straight mid-back length ponytail. Each model had either black, platinum or red extension wrapped around the ponytail to off-set the natural hair color. “The colorful extensions added a futuristic feel, a very ‘Manga Doll’ look.” –Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Create the look:
1. Comb all hair back and pull into a ponytail right above the occipital bone, secure with an elastic.
2. Apply hardwear 16 super strong gel to ensure the sides of the head are slick with no fly-aways 3. Wrap a hair extension around the ponytail (either a red, black or platinum extension)
4. Apply iron silk 07 ultra straightening spray to the ponytail and flat iron so it’s completely straight
5. Wrap a small piece of a hair around the elastic to cover
6. Finish with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray for hold

Spring 2010 Paris Couture Collections & Trends

Here are the trends we spotted at the Spring 2010 Fashion Show in Paris:

Alexis Mabille: This is a good example of when geometry meets fashion. Mabille’s Spring 2010 collection definitely stood out in Paris with the cartoon-like couture. Two-toned hair color and fashion: Black contrasted by vibrant Fuschia, Blue, and Yellow.

Armani Privé: "It's about the moon," explained Giorgio Armani before his show. "I always need a hook to get into a collection, and that was it—thinking about something romantic and dreamy, far away from our everyday life. Something less harsh." You can see the lunar references in the Classic, Soft, luminescent fabrics and curviform cutting fabrics.

Chanel: Classic couture, refreshening Pastel colors with a hint of silver complimented by Lady Gaga's "Heart-shaped" like hair.

Christian Dior: Romanticized gowns. Sleeveless fanned tops. Rich silk and colors topped with sequins.

Givenchy: Dark, strong, erotic and dramatic beauty. Riccardo Tisci took us back into time – the 70’s with cocktail dresses featuring spiral-cut sprays of organza, jumpsuits in black lace with boleros, and a section of long evening look.

Jean Paul Gaultier: Giant sombreros, fringed and silver-studded denim; bra-top feathered dresses; shifts embroidered with bright jewels or worn with metallic shoulder and leg-guards; and ball gowns woven, in the manner of peasant baskets, in ribbons of shadow-dyed silk and suede.. a Mexican fiesta in Paris indeed!

Karl Lagerfeld "Hearts" Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga has a way of musing us when it comes to fashion and it looks like Karl Lagerfeld is no exception. At the Chanel Haute Couture show in Paris earlier this week, models wore heart-shaped hair that imitated Lady Gaga’s famous bow hairstyle.

The singer has revealed her interest for Chanel, wearing a black suit from the designer for her interview with Barbara Walters, and expressing worries that Mr. Lagerfeld might not dig her style: “Then I’d be upset. Because it’s Karl Lagerfeld!” she recently told People.com. Usually fashion designers are the architects of fashion trends, but there’s nothing wrong with them taking a few pointer from pop celebrities such as Miss Gaga – especially since she’s a one-of-a kind pop icon.


Chanel Couture is known for creating classic pieces with a feminine touch. Although the heart-shaped coif looked a little over the top when we first saw it on Gaga, it pairs well with Chanel. Is it safe to call this "heart-shaped" do spring's next hair trend - what do you think?
