Shopping Tip: How To Develop Sales Resistance
Black Friday is in 2 days and the competition will be fierce. Stores will have any number of deals to try and get your holiday budget this season. This year the Holiday Shopping season is a whopping 35 days so you're going to have to learn when to buy and when to show some sales resisitance. Stop being such a sucker for a smooth sales pitch! The key? Getting wise to sneaky sales tactics.
You Will Need:
Knowledge of sales tactics
A strong sense of self
A cool head

Step 1: Don't be vulnerable
Try not to shop when you’re tired, sad, or rushed. Negative emotions will just make you more vulnerable to sales pressure.
Step 2: Do your homework
The best defense is preparation: If you’re looking for something specific, shop around or search for it online so you’ll be able to recognize a real steal. If you do your homework ahead of time, you’ll also know when a “special deal” someone claims to “authorize” is actually a bargain.
Step 3: Never feel obligated
Never let a salesperson make you feel obligated to buy something because they’ve let you taste a sample or spent a lot of time waiting on you. The urge to reciprocate is such a strong human response that many sales people consciously try to exploit it.
Step 4: Resist pressure
Don’t fall for the old “this deal is only good today” ploy. In most cases, you can get the same offer tomorrow.
Step 5: Don't be fooled
Don’t be fooled into thinking that you will never, ever find another item like the one you are wavering on. Making an item seem scarce to increase its perceived value is another persuasion tactic that salespeople use.
Step 6: Keep your head
Instead of getting excited when a salesperson keeps reducing a price, ask yourself why the salesperson is so eager to get rid of the product, and why the price was so inflated in the first place.

How To Snag the Best Bargains on Black Friday
The day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, is one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Beware of retailers who lure you into the store with a low price only to insist that you must purchase expensive add-ons to get it. Insist on speaking to the manager and leave if they don’t accommodate you. Get the best deals with these insider tips.
You Will Need:
Your local newspaper
Expired coupons
The patience to comparison shop
Step 1: Check internet sites
Check internet sites like bfads.net and blackfriday.info on the days leading up to Thanksgiving. Many Black Friday deals are leaked early online.
Step 2: Call ahead
Call the store ahead of time and ask how many of the sale items are being stocked. If the product is being offered at a deep discount, it is probably a so-called “doorbuster” that will be sold out soon after the early birds arrive.
Step 3: Shop on Wednesday night
Stop by the store on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and see if you can snag a doorbuster or other great deal. Many special discounts are entered into a store’s computer system after 6 p.m. on the last business day before a big sale.
Step 4: Buy the newspaper
Buy the newspaper on Thanksgiving Day and on Black Friday. Some sales are not advertised before those dates.
Step 5: Log on to the store's website
Log on to the retailer’s website before their stores open to see if you can snap up the items you want online.
Step 6: Make sure it's a bargain
Compare prices at other retailers before you hand over your credit card; sometimes a Black Friday special is not the great deal it’s pumped up to be. Sites like pricegrabber.com and shopzilla.com let you comparison shop easily.
Step 7: Bring expired coupons
Bring along any expired store coupons that you have. Retailers are more likely to honor them during the do-or-die holiday season.
Step 8: Wait for the second wave
Don’t despair if you don’t snare any Black Friday bargains. Stores usually offer a second wave of bargain-basement prices about 10 days before Christmas, especially during a slow sales season.
Did You Know:
Black Friday may be the biggest shopping day of the year, but it’s not the biggest buying day; that honor goes to the Saturday before Christmas, or December 23 if the holiday falls on a weekend.
