The day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, is one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Beware of retailers who lure you into the store with a low price only to insist that you must purchase expensive add-ons to get it. Insist on speaking to the manager and leave if they don’t accommodate you. Get the best deals with these insider tips.
You Will Need:
Your local newspaper
Expired coupons
The patience to comparison shop
Step 1: Check internet sites
Check internet sites like bfads.net and blackfriday.info on the days leading up to Thanksgiving. Many Black Friday deals are leaked early online.
Step 2: Call ahead
Call the store ahead of time and ask how many of the sale items are being stocked. If the product is being offered at a deep discount, it is probably a so-called “doorbuster” that will be sold out soon after the early birds arrive.
Step 3: Shop on Wednesday night
Stop by the store on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and see if you can snag a doorbuster or other great deal. Many special discounts are entered into a store’s computer system after 6 p.m. on the last business day before a big sale.
Step 4: Buy the newspaper
Buy the newspaper on Thanksgiving Day and on Black Friday. Some sales are not advertised before those dates.
Step 5: Log on to the store's website
Log on to the retailer’s website before their stores open to see if you can snap up the items you want online.
Step 6: Make sure it's a bargain
Compare prices at other retailers before you hand over your credit card; sometimes a Black Friday special is not the great deal it’s pumped up to be. Sites like pricegrabber.com and shopzilla.com let you comparison shop easily.
Step 7: Bring expired coupons
Bring along any expired store coupons that you have. Retailers are more likely to honor them during the do-or-die holiday season.
Step 8: Wait for the second wave
Don’t despair if you don’t snare any Black Friday bargains. Stores usually offer a second wave of bargain-basement prices about 10 days before Christmas, especially during a slow sales season.
Did You Know:
Black Friday may be the biggest shopping day of the year, but it’s not the biggest buying day; that honor goes to the Saturday before Christmas, or December 23 if the holiday falls on a weekend.
