Made in Manhattan: Nanette Lepore

The only thing better than fashion in New York City? Fashion that's made in New York City. Yoanna House visits Nanette Lepore's Garment District atelier to see where the designer creates her feminine collections and heads to her new Madison Avenue boutique to try on some of her bright, bohemian-influenced styles.

The Nanette Lepore Firecracker Dress reminds us why we're suckers for a pretty dress. This is a floral-print silk dress with sweetheart neckline and ruching at bust. Wrap detail at skirt and hidden zipper at back. Short flutter sleeves. Polka-dot peek-a-boo lining. 35" long, measured from shoulder. Shell: 100% silk. Lining: 100% acetate.

The practical Nanette Lepore Coral Reef Corset features a ruched sweetheart neckline with ruffle trim. Fitted corset bodice with zip closure at center back. Detachable button straps. Lined. Materials: Self: 95% Cotton, 5% Polyurethane. Lining: 70% Cotton/ 27% Nylon, 3% Spandex. Measurements: Measures 16.5" from neckline.

We adore Nanette Lepore's whimsically feminine sensibility. This Leather Hold Me Tight Platform Sandalwith contrast topstitching and pleated raffia banding at upper. Contrast topstitching and buckle closure at ankle strap. 1" wooden platform and 4.5" covered heel. Rubber sole. Made in Italy.

Whatever Happened to Them Wednesdays: Riding In Style

(Marilynn K. Yee/ The New York Times)

Whatever happened to riding in style: we do so while riding buses, cars, motor cycles, but not bikes. Why is that? This is all about to change; thanks to Donna Karen and creative students at the Fashion Institute of technology, we'll soon be able to look good while putting the pedal to the medal.

Congrats to the winners. This is a great example of ordinary people doing extraordinary things!
