Fragrances: Miss Dior Cherie by Dior

Miss Dior Cherie Perfume by Christian Dior, 1 oz Eau De Parfum Spray for Women

For us, fashion addicts who also love history, Dior reminds us of the 1950’s glamour. That’s why I am always looking forward to wearing any Dior fragrances I come across. Though it’s not exactly a new fragrance, today I've decided to talk about Miss Dior Cherie.

Elegance is timeless and never dated but when you go to a perfume store and ask for an elegant, timeless perfume, the odds of the sales assistant bringing you that “old lady” perfume are high. I never figured out why. Miss Dior Cherie by Christian Dior is a timeless perfume but with a very modern and fresh approach.

Green Tangerine, Violette, Pink Jasmine, Patchouli, Crystalline Musk, Strawberry Leaves, Caramelized Popcorn, Strawberry Sorbet are the notes on this perfume. No, I’m not kidding. Popcorn and Strawberry Sorbet are really there. As you probably know that’s extremely unusual for grown up’s perfumes but I must say they tie in so well with the rest of the scents that you won’t be able to clearly tell what’s what.

Sweet and sexy, playful but classy, soft but memorable, Miss Dior Cherie is that kind of perfume you can picture bubbly, friendly people wearing. Originally, it was intended for a younger public but I say you’re as young as you feel. This is definitely a good choice for a daytime perfume for fall and early winter. If you're thinking about buying Christmas prensents already, this would be good choice for your younger sister, for example.

The staying power is very good but not outstanding. However, if you use the body lotion as well, I can guarantee it will be extraordinary.

Perfume of the Week: Butterfly by Hanae Mori

Hanae Mori Perfume by Hanae Mori, 1.7 oz Eau De Toilette Spray (unboxed) for Women

This week's perfume pick is Butterfly by Hanae Mori. Butterfly is a rare blend of berries and flowers, with a distinctive tone of strawberries and almond - which gives off an impression of vanilla. The bottle's top is distinctly made from glass, a first for any fragrance. The top represents the beauty and delicate shape of a butterfly with folded wings.

The first spritz is very sweet and the light, fruity floral top-notes shine through. The fruity tones are more noticable when the spritz is still wet. As it begins to dry, it also becomes warmer --allowing the woodier characters to come through. The fruity scent lingers, but it is in the drydown that this fragrance really matures into a scent that is sweet and soft without being overly sugary. At this point it will tend to resemble almonds and vanilla with just a hint of sandalwood.

You won't leave the house in a cloud of perfume after applying Butterfly. Rather, people will notice a pleasing aroma waft around when when you walk past, brush your hair behind your ear, and adjust your collar. This doesn't mean that you will need to apply more to be noticed, but it does mean that it won't knock down your officemates with killer headaches with an extra little spritz, as it's okay if you feel like you need it.

Also, the bottle is just so classy - not particularly glamorous, but the simple, clean design topped with the pretty glass butterfly cap is almost a perfect reflection of the perfume itself -- subtle, with a surprise note of stand-out femininity. Butterfly usually retails between $65 - $90, but you can purchase a 3.3 oz bottle on sale now for only $44.25 at FragranceX.com.

Love Etc... The Body Shop Perfume

If I tell you there’s a perfume called “Love Etc...” and that its logo is made of various hearts, on all the colors in the rainbow you’d probably tell me right away that it would be a Valentine’s perfume, right? Well… not so much. The Body Shop is well known for their body butters and amazing bath products but they have some really good (and inexpensive) perfumes. The newest is Love Etc…

This new perfume has been created by Dominque Ropion, who is the perfumist behind fragrances such as Armani Code (previously featured on this segment), Lovely (SJP’s perfume) and many others. The perfumist was inspired by love in all it’s variants, be it love for your friends and family or love for a certain place or time in your life.

The notes are jasmine, vanilla and sandalwood. Looks pretty simple and straightforward but it seems to be a match made in heaven. All the notes are definitely sweet, but not overwhelming. This is a traditional floral-oriental perfume to which the freshness and romance is brought by the jasmine, the sweetness and mystery is brought by the vanilla accord and the earthy warmness and sexiness is brought by the sandalwood. No aldehids and no musk on fragrance, so even the more sensitive people can rest assured that it is extremely unlikely to give you headaches.

I’d personally say this is by no means a warm perfume but it’s not a cool one either. I’d wear it year round since I find it to be well balanced, just as love itself should be. Don’t rely on this perfume to make an entrance by you in a room because that will never happen. It’s a discreet, peaceful and classy day perfume that is sure to appeal to those of you who just cannot stand the very though of wearing too much of an overpowering perfume but don’t want to smell like you just borrowed a pre-teen’s perfume.

As if all of these good things weren’t enough, the alcohol on this perfume is a Community Trade biological product so you’ll also be helping to create a better World when you buy and use it.

Perfume of The Week - Scarlett by Cacharel

Cacharel Scarlett Eau De Toilette Spray 50ml/1.7oz

This week's perfume is Cacharel Scarlett. Cacharel’s biggest hit ever, as far as perfume is concerned, was Anaïs Anaïs, back in the 1970’s. It wasn’t so common during the 80’s but it re-gained a lot of popularity in the 90’s. My mom dating my father when I was young and always kissing me goodnight before leaving is what Anaïs Anaïs instantly reminds me of. She used to wear this Cacharel’s fragrance. Fifteen years have passed since then and Cacharel decides to re-invent Anaïs and turns it into an ode to one of my favorite actresses, Scarlett Johansson, and my secret (not so secret anymore) alter ego: Scarlett O’Hara from Gone With The Wind. That's when Scarlett was born; bringing notes of tea leaves, citrus, pear, jasmine, orange blossom, lavender honey, honeysuckle, white musk and sandalwood.

The citrus and the white flowers are the top notes that you can smell as soon as you open the bottle. They are sweet and tangy at the same time; making it seem a little playful on the “outside”; just like the two ladies it was inspired by. If you are patient enough to wait for the rest of the mix of scents to show up, you will see the sweet intensity and sexiness of the two types of honey and the white musk.

If the notes Scarlett and Anaïs have in common are not enough to remind people that they are “mother and daughter”, the packaging itself makes it a point not to let you forget that. The white and pink from the Anaïs bottle, as well as the design inspired by porcelain work are still present on Scarlett.

I honestly don’t believe in setting an age group for every fragrance out in the market. To me, for the most part, it doesn’t even make much sense. However, this perfume is said to be geared towards young women, from 15 to 25. I say that if you like sweet florals, you can be 12 or 90 and this will still be a fabulous scent. If, on the other hand, you cannot stand the very though of the smell of honey, then this is most definitely not the perfume for you.
