Fragrances: Miss Dior Cherie by Dior

Miss Dior Cherie Perfume by Christian Dior, 1 oz Eau De Parfum Spray for Women

For us, fashion addicts who also love history, Dior reminds us of the 1950’s glamour. That’s why I am always looking forward to wearing any Dior fragrances I come across. Though it’s not exactly a new fragrance, today I've decided to talk about Miss Dior Cherie.

Elegance is timeless and never dated but when you go to a perfume store and ask for an elegant, timeless perfume, the odds of the sales assistant bringing you that “old lady” perfume are high. I never figured out why. Miss Dior Cherie by Christian Dior is a timeless perfume but with a very modern and fresh approach.

Green Tangerine, Violette, Pink Jasmine, Patchouli, Crystalline Musk, Strawberry Leaves, Caramelized Popcorn, Strawberry Sorbet are the notes on this perfume. No, I’m not kidding. Popcorn and Strawberry Sorbet are really there. As you probably know that’s extremely unusual for grown up’s perfumes but I must say they tie in so well with the rest of the scents that you won’t be able to clearly tell what’s what.

Sweet and sexy, playful but classy, soft but memorable, Miss Dior Cherie is that kind of perfume you can picture bubbly, friendly people wearing. Originally, it was intended for a younger public but I say you’re as young as you feel. This is definitely a good choice for a daytime perfume for fall and early winter. If you're thinking about buying Christmas prensents already, this would be good choice for your younger sister, for example.

The staying power is very good but not outstanding. However, if you use the body lotion as well, I can guarantee it will be extraordinary.

Perfume of the Week - Very Hollywood by Michael Kors

As days get warmer, most of us reach for the lighter fragrances. Smooth florals, light fruity smells and younger scents are on our lists. Very Hollywood by Michael Kors is exactly the kind of perfume most people gravitate towards on this time of year. The notes are mandarin, iced bergamot, wet jasmine, ylang-ylang, raspberry, gardenia, orris (which I have no clue as to what it smells like), creamy amber, soft white moss and vetiver.

If a perfume has mandarin and raspberry, you can expect that “lemonade” or ice-cream scent that is very fresh and playful and if it has any kind of jasmine in it, you can expect me to like it (gardenia is also from the jasmine family, just in case you didn’t know).

With a name like Very Hollywood I was expecting something glamorous and grown up so to speak. This fragrance however is very casual and young. I think it is perfect for those of you who are younger or maybe just starting to get into the perfume world.

Michael Kors seems to have decided to add a bright and sparkly scent to his perfume line in order to appeal to a more vast audience, who might have more modern tastes. I think this does the trick but if you’re in the market for something more sensual, you might want to try something else.

Love Etc... The Body Shop Perfume

If I tell you there’s a perfume called “Love Etc...” and that its logo is made of various hearts, on all the colors in the rainbow you’d probably tell me right away that it would be a Valentine’s perfume, right? Well… not so much. The Body Shop is well known for their body butters and amazing bath products but they have some really good (and inexpensive) perfumes. The newest is Love Etc…

This new perfume has been created by Dominque Ropion, who is the perfumist behind fragrances such as Armani Code (previously featured on this segment), Lovely (SJP’s perfume) and many others. The perfumist was inspired by love in all it’s variants, be it love for your friends and family or love for a certain place or time in your life.

The notes are jasmine, vanilla and sandalwood. Looks pretty simple and straightforward but it seems to be a match made in heaven. All the notes are definitely sweet, but not overwhelming. This is a traditional floral-oriental perfume to which the freshness and romance is brought by the jasmine, the sweetness and mystery is brought by the vanilla accord and the earthy warmness and sexiness is brought by the sandalwood. No aldehids and no musk on fragrance, so even the more sensitive people can rest assured that it is extremely unlikely to give you headaches.

I’d personally say this is by no means a warm perfume but it’s not a cool one either. I’d wear it year round since I find it to be well balanced, just as love itself should be. Don’t rely on this perfume to make an entrance by you in a room because that will never happen. It’s a discreet, peaceful and classy day perfume that is sure to appeal to those of you who just cannot stand the very though of wearing too much of an overpowering perfume but don’t want to smell like you just borrowed a pre-teen’s perfume.

As if all of these good things weren’t enough, the alcohol on this perfume is a Community Trade biological product so you’ll also be helping to create a better World when you buy and use it.

Perfume of the Week - Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere

Chanel No.5 Eau Premiere Eau De Parfum Spray 150ml

Lately a lot of brands have been trying to make versions of their classic perfumes that appeal more to the modern young woman. That was the exactly the case with last week’s perfume of the week, "Scarlett by Cacharel", and certainly is the case with this week’s fragrance, Chanel 5 Eau Premiere Perfume by Chanel Eau Premiere Spray 5.0 Oz.

When asked about the Original Chanel no. 5, Marilyn Monroe stated that that perfume was all she wore to bed. Back in the 50’s that was quite a scandalous statement. A statement so scandalous that it instantly resulted in bottles selling out. Fast forward to today and you still find young women emulating the glamour, sexiness and hint of scandal, that was a trademark of Hollywood’s Golden Age. The Chanel 5 Eau Premiere Perfume by Chanel Eau Premiere does that while managing to adopt a fresh and modern touch. You might be asking just how are they able to do that through this fabled classic so many years after its debut? The easy way is by betting on one of the more modern versions of the classic that high-end brands have been launching.

Chanel 5 Eau Premiere borrowed the neroli, roses, jasmine, ylang ylang, amber, vetiver, and sandalwood notes from the original perfume, but emphasized more of the rose scent and added a little, tiny bit of vanilla-like scents. This made the perfume much fresher and slightly powdery, in a way that it can be worn during fall without seeming too heavy and warm, but it is still a solid and agreeable scent. Whereas the original Chanel no.5 is known to be overpowering a lot of the time, Eau Premiere is much softer and forgiving.

If you do decide to give this perfume a try, please remember to use it sparingly. It is still a strong fragrance and it lasts a long, long, long time. I don’t see an occasion when you’d need more than three drops of it to smell good all day long without leaving that trail of perfume around corridors or in the elevator. I’d love to hear from you and know if there is any perfume that you consider your staple fall perfume, leave your comments below. Fragrancez

Perfume of the Month - Harajuku Lovers Baby

Harajuku Lovers Baby Perfume by Gwen Stefani, 1 oz Eau De Toilette Spray for Women

Harajuku lovers, by Gwen Stefani, has five different perfumes and all come in bottles to which the cap is a cute little doll (did I mention I love pretty packagings?). This month, our perfume of the month is: Harajuku Lovers Baby Perfume by Gwen Stefani, 1 oz Eau De Toilette Spray for Women.

I read tons of reviews and did my research on this perfume and I came to the conclusion that this is one of those perfumes you either love or hate and there is no middle ground.
It smells like baby powder and there is absolutely no other way of describing it. This is a white floral perfume, and the notes are Freesia, Bergamot, White Rose, Orange Flower, Tiare, Jasmine, White Musk, Soft Woods, Heliotrope, Vanilla, and Violet. I can smell Freesia, Bergamot and White rose as being top notes and I can feel the gentle and velvety White Musk lingering on the skin forever but the other notes are indistinguishable to me.

Some people say that the smell does not stay on your skin but I have a theory about that. If you are accustomed to the smell of baby powder (if you have a baby, for instance), then you are so used to this smell that after a couple of minutes you won’t even notice it. On the other hand, I’ve read reviews of people complaing about the smell being too strong. Despite being a medium to warm scent, this is a summer fragrance and you are supposed to be light handed when applying it. If you take a summer fragrance and apply it like you would your winter fragrance, 9 times out of 10 (if we’re talking good quality perfumes), you will end up with a very strong smell that will annoy anyone that comes within five feet of you. If you've read my reviews on perfumes before you probably know I absolutely love musk in my perfumes but there are times when too much is just too much and that is what will happen if you apply too much of this perfume.

Speaking of musk, musk its said to attract the opposite sex so musky perfumes are often referred to as sexier than most others. Prepare to be introduced to a new approach to musk, since this perfume is either girly and sweet but stops just short of sexy or is a decent and decorous form of sexy. It’s up to you, and whoever smells you, to decide how sexy is actually sexy.

If you are in High School or in your early years of college and need a perfume, this could be your choice for a back to school scent and you could even wear it all through fall and the very beginning of winter. I know I said this is a summer fragrance but I also said it is medium to warm one. That is why if you are young and don’t want a warm perfume that ages you, you can bet on this one.

My personal verdict on this perfume is that I love it so much that I bought it and yes, I do plan to smell like baby powder for a while.
