How To Squeeze Into a Dress Before a Big Event (Poll Contest Reminder!!!)

Whether you’re an Oscar nominee or a new mom with an upcoming high school reunion, these tricks will get you into that va-va-voom dress without splitting the seams.

You Will Need
An anti-bloat mini-diet
A colonic irrigation
A lymphatic-drainage massage
A slenderizing body wrap
Body-slimming undergarments

Step 1: Get rid of the bloat
Get rid of the bloat. Four days before the big event, stop eating foods that encourage your body to retain water, like salt, white bread, and pasta, and foods that cause gas, like broccoli and cauliflower. And stay away from coffee, tea, alcohol, and carbonated beverages, which also can cause bloating by irritating your gastrointestinal tract. Don’t chew gum—it makes you swallow air, which then gets trapped in your tummy, causing it to swell.

Step 2: Get cleaned out
On the morning of your event, get a colonic irrigation. Some people are as much as seven pounds lighter afterward. Some stars book themselves into a spa before the Oscars for a week of juice fasting and daily colonics.

Step 3: Drain your face
Go for a facial—but not just any kind. Have one that includes a lymphatic-drainage massage, which will draw fluid and trace toxins out of your face, and puffiness along with it.

Step 4: Wrap it up
Have a body wrap. The secret of many A-list stars, it can make you a whole size smaller—for your special night, anyway—by ridding your body of water weight and tightening the skin.

Step 5: Pack it in
Add some insurance by wearing one of the many body-slimming undergarments on the market. That way, even if you abuse the canapes, you’ll still be safe!

Did You Know?
Some slimming undergarments are made of a fabric that, with repeated wearing, supposedly reduces cellulite!

  1. I was the Maid of Honor in a wedding and could no longer fit my dress. So a week before the wedding I went on an ALL APPLESAUCE diet, Taebo-ed my butt off and got the best girdle I could find and I was able to fit in the dress :)

  2. I was maid of honor in my sisters wedding and so I went on the cabbage soup diet to fit into my dress. It worked, I lost ten pounds in one week. Of course I gained all back. I won't do that ever again!

  3. Yes i am guilty of a quick diet plan, i moved out of state and i was going home for christmas and i knew that i would see my ex, so about 3 weeks before i went on the lemon juice and cayenne pepper diet, now let me tell you want they don't tell you about this diet it burns both going in and out of your body if you get my meaning, lol....although it worked i wouldn't be doing that diet again my butt wont let me, lol

  4. I have gone on a diet right before a big event...I had just had my son about 2 months prior to a wedding that I was supposed to be in so I had to drop a couple few inches to fit in the dress. I went on a high protein/liquid diet, wore a belly shaper during just about every activity (walking, shopping, cleaning etc), and I worked out twice a day...I was able to get in the dress!

  5. I remember going on a diet just to prepare for my prom. No sodas, no carbs and I worked out like crazy! I ended up losing weight but my dress became too loose!

  6. I honestly have to say that I have never gone on a diet before an event to get into a dress. I remember when I got married thought about it beacause I knew my dress wasn't going to fit, but did not have enough will power. I just had to pay to get that bad baby altered...lol. So I have never tortured...lol...myself to lose weight for an event

  10. Yes, I went on a crash diet for my wedding back in 2005. I did the atkins diet and lost a lot of weight, but two weeks before my wedding, my dress was fitting a little snug because of fluid retention. I went on the watermelon diet to get rid of the fluid my body was holding, and sure enough, the diet worked.

  11. I have yet to have to do that...WHOOO HOOOO! ::jumps in air:: Well I have yet to have the want to need to do all of that. Some others may say it's needed. It does get a little ridiculous the lengths people will go to get a good fit in an outfit though.

  12. I was going to South Beach Miami, with some friends, one guy in particular who I crushed on REALLY hard was going as well...it was for his graduation celebration. So anyways, South Beach=beautiful people in swimsuits, so I was like OMG, I haven't worn a swimsuit, let along a two-piece in FOREVER! So I had to get down to business! I was on a STRICT diet of fruit in the morning, snack crackers for lunch, and a HUGE nutritious salad for dinner, TONS of water all day of course! I did this for 2 weeks and I looked DAMN GOOD in that two-piece, and that crush of mine stood RIGHT BY my side in a BEAUTIFUL pic on the beach...it was AWESOME! All that hard work & dedication paid off!

  13. It's funny now to talk about it but at one time, I wanted to fit into this outfit to go out in. I hardly ever go out so I really wanted to look good. So I went on a liquid diet and daily, I would wrap my stomach up in plastic wrap. As I would walk, I would sweat in that area. Then I would run around the block a few times. In the end, I looked great! I did run out of plastic wrap for dinner the night after lol!

  15. I have taken tactics to slim and tone before an event. It was when I was in a fashion show and a few of the outfits revealed my stomach. So the week before the show I reduced my meal portions by about 1/3 and eliminated sodas. I think it worked pretty well. I was already exercising so this helped to really define my abs the day of the show.

  18. I have not went on a quick fix diet to fit into a dress, but I will if thought I needed to.

  19. I usually don't worry about trying to look slimmer, just because I don't really care. But I have before to make an ex take a double take and think "hmm, can't believe I let her go",lol. I only worry about the day off the event and try not to eat foods that will make me look bigger than I really am. This usually works for me.

  20. Yes, I've tried to go on a diet before an event. The events are usually an assembly or convention for my religion. Hundreds of people attend them and I want to try to look "flawless", but I never stick to my diets. =) Maybe I can follow a couple of these tips.

  21. Maid of honor at friend's wedding where professional football players were in attendance! I was still the "biggest girl" at around a size 10...

  23. Oh Yeah, I've definitely been caught out there going on wild diets, My ten year HS reunion was coming up and I tried to lose 20 pounds in just 2 weeks. I drank protein shakes and ate crackers but I still didn't lose weight. Didn't matter, becasue the haters I was trying to make mad were bigger than I was.

  24. i did try to diet before my wedding to fit into my dress an all water diet. i had a very untraditional wedding so i did not have the traditional white/ivory wedding gown, i had a cute black and white dress and needed to look right for it. it worked for the moment but i felt horrible later.

  25. I'm in the process right now. I'm doing the lemonade cleanse for my husbands Christmas party. This is our first formal event since his prom in 2002.

  26. I'm a small framed petite girl and I honestly don't recall going a a crash diet to fit into a dress (...yet!). I mainly have to get them taken in. And because of that reason, I might have to go on a crash diet to get into a couple of my dresses now that I had to take in during high school!!! Although I'm small, I'm not AS SMALL as I was 6 years ago.
